Tiffany Houghton

Tiffany Houghton is an independent American Pop singer and songwriter. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a child she lived with her family in New York City and appeared on television and in advertisements. She was an alternative child actor and singer for the musical “Annie.”

At age 17, after graduating from high school, she moved to Nashville and Los Angeles to “gain experience, make connections, and work on her act.”[1] She released several singles, toured nationally with pop group MKTO, opened for One Direction, and had a #1 song (“Catch Me If You Can”) on Radio Disney. Accolades came from Billboard, Seventeen Magazine, J-14, Twist, and Teen Vogue.[2] But, as Deseret Magazine described, “the industry took hold of every part of her. She felt like more of a product than a person. Managers, publicists and executives tried to dictate her appearance, diet and dating life.” One New York radio executive demanded she come over for a “sleepover” before he would play her song on his station. She refused.[3] 

“I got into music to be a voice for women and hopefully empower young girls,” but, she asked herself, “How could I be that voice if I wasn’t in a good place?” So she knew she had to leave that situation.[4]

Houghton says she felt like she couldn’t move forward without losing herself or her career. It was an impossible choice. Until she realized that she didn’t have to choose.[5]

According to Deseret Magazine, she was motivated by her Latter-day Saint faith. ““My faith and the way that I lived protected me in so many situations throughout the years. My faith has been something that has led me my whole life. It’s always something I come back to and find value and worth in, as well as direction and guidance.”

Although independent and self-managed artists haven’t traditionally found as much success as those signed to big labels and assisted by managers, that tradition has shifted thanks to social media and digital streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.

Houghton is thriving with this creative freedom and will release her independent album in April 2021.

She has gone back to her roots and lives in family’s Dallas home with her husband, Adam Moffitt, during the COVID pandemic. While making music, she is also pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the Berklee College of Music.

Houghton was born on December 6, 1993, in Dallas, Texas, to Steve and Jennifer Houghton.
