Trujillo Peru Temple

On 13 December 2008 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that it will build a temple in Trujillo, Peru. This will be the second temple in Peru. Saints from all over the country have been attending the Lima, Peru Mormon temple, and those from the Trujillo area have been traveling by bus for 9-10 hours in order to do so. Often they would have to patiently wait for hours before there was room in the temple for them.

There is already a stake center on the building site, so the temple will be next door. The new temple will serve 88,000 Mormons who live in the region.

The groundbreaking for the new temple took place on Saturday, September 17, 2011, with Elder Rafael E. Pino of the Seventy presiding.

The temple is located in the Urbanización Primavera section of Trujillo. The site is located near the prominent Campo Eterno cemetery, on the highway to Huanchaco.

Open House and Inside Look

A free public open house for the Trujillo Peru Temple will begin on Friday, 8 May 2015 and go through Saturday, 30 May 2015 with the exception of Sundays. There will not be an open house on Sunday, 10 May, 17 May, or 24 May 2015.

Cultural Celebration, and Dedication

Prior to the dedication of the temple, a cultural celebration will be held on Saturday, 20 June 2015. The temple dedication services will be broadcast at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to meetinghouses in Peru on Sunday, 21 June. The regular three-hour block of meetings will be cancelled so that Latter-day Saints can have the opportunity to participate in the dedicatory sessions.
