William W. Parmley

William W. Parmley was sustained a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy and a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April 2003 and served until October 2009. Following his release he served as president of the Sacramento California Temple.

Parmley was born on January 22, 1936, in Utah. His mother, LaVern W. Parmley served as General Primary president. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Harvard University and his medical doctor degree from Johns Hopkins Medical School, where he also trained in internal medicine. He also trained at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. He was chief of cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco. He cowrote several studies on heart muscle issues and coauthored “Even a Little Second-Hand Smoke Is Dangerous” for the Journal of the American Medical Association. He also served as the editor in chief of the Journal of American College of Cardiology.

He and his wife, Shanna, are the parents of four children. He has also served in the Church as a gospel doctrine teacher, bishop, stake president, and Area Authority Seventy. He served as a full-time missionary in the Northwestern States Mission.
