Alfred C. Emery

Alfred C. Emery was a law professor and academic administrator. He served as president of the University of Utah from 1971 to 1973.

Emery was born on January 24, 1919, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He studied at the University of Utah and earned his bachelor’s degree with honors in accounting. He earned his law degree in 1947.

He served in the Navy from September 1942 until November 1945. He began teaching full time at the University of Utah Law School in 1950. He later held the Sterling Fellowship at Yale Law School. His law career included positions at the University of Utah as Acting Dean at the College of Law, Vice President of Academic Affairs and teaching for over 40 years.

He married Belva White in June 1942 and had four sons.

He died on March 18, 2002, in Salt Lake City.
