During his general conference closing message on April 7, 2023, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct a temple in Chihuahua, Mexico. The Chihuahua Mexico Temple is one of fifteen newly announced temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.[1] It will be the 25th house of the Lord operating, under construction, or announced in Mexico.

The preaching of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ began in Mexico during the 1870s. In 1961, a stake (similar to a diocese) was organized in Mexico City and a temple was dedicated in 1983. Mexico is home to over 1.5 million Latter-day Saints in more than 1,875 congregations.

Location

The Chihuahua Mexico Temple will be built on a 5.87-acre site located at the corner of Avenida de la Cantera and Avenida Real Escondido, Reserva Territorial la Hacienda, Chihuahua, Chihuahua, 31216. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 19,000 square feet. This will be the state’s third house of the Lord.
